Here and There

I've had a former student of mine over from Bali to assist with installing some equipment. Wayan has 'geen fingers' when it comes to chemistry. He is methodical and thorough which is the secret to good science. We first met on an AusAID project in Bandung, Indonesia and I was very pleased when he chose to come and study with me in Australia.

Happy St David's Day!

Happy St David's day and first day of Autumn and Happy Birthday to my daughter! I learned yesterday that I have an 'Atrial Septal Defect' which I presume I've had since birth. It is big enough to require closing (I am reliably informed). I've had no trouble exercising, but it may lead to heart trouble in my 50's or 60's. I understand that it is a fairly routine, albeit significant procedure. Hopefully I can get it done soon.

Singapore!!!!! I'm so excited!

I've just learned that I have a 12 month position in Singapore from July! Have already entered the 'Singapore 70.3' (new name for half-ironman triathlon) in September.

Luxury on the Gold Coast

We had a few birthdays in February and so had a family weekend on the Gold Coast. My brother (centre) looks very much like a dearly departed uncle in this photo! Perhaps he was channelling (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channelling_(mediumistic)?
